Born in 1975 to an Orthodox mother and Catholic father, I spent my early years in Trzic, Slovenia; a little picturesque country in southern Central Europe. I had a wonderful, loving and happy childhood.
I moved to Bosnia with my family in 1991. The time between 1992 and 1995 feels like a dream; a bad dream long time gone.
The war, the chaos and later my parents separation left emotional scars, that I reflect through my images; where you will notice a glimpse of my heart and soul.
When I finished my high school education in Croatia, I emigrated to Canada in 1998 with my mother and sister. I enrolled into Health Care Program at the Vancouver Career College, graduating in 2002. Now I live with my husband in Florida, USA.
My love and appreciation of photography and art began long time ago, but my great need to express myself and my vision manifested at the end of 2006 through the art of photography.
I have always enjoyed being the observer. Just watching people and my surroundings; and feeling the connection as well as the isolation from community, culture and the environment.
My work reflects the richness of my heritage and life experience. I love taking photos from different and unusual angles. I love to explore and to experiment in all aspects of photography, but my special interests are b&w photography/sepia, documentary/photojournalistic, street/candid, abstract and fine art photography.
I also enjoy writing (haiku) poetry, designing websites, creating haiga, digital art and greeting cards, and I dabble in drawing.
Being deeply influenced by the Japanese philosophy that embraces simplicity, and the Chinese philosophy that emphasizes the importance of a family, I strive not to forget who I am and where I come from.
![]() | My photography is all about finding order in a chaotic world. Painting with light is my key to the secret garden which I explore over and over. Photography started it. It frees my imagination and fills me with a sense of accomplishment and integrity. Through the lens I preserve my inner vision and freeze my emotions translated to outer reality. I photograph from inside out. I celebrate life and its energy and movement that are deeply rooted in my images; which are often streaked with order and chaos, known and unknown. When people see my work, I’d like them to feel the marvelous sparks of life as well as to experience the breath of nostalgia engraved in my images. Influenced by the Japanese philosophy of Zen, I seek to incorporate principles of simplicity and design in my photographs. I photograph to remember. Love and Light, Anita Dzogovic
